FIELD ACADEMY
AGES 10–14
Maine Trip

This year, Summer Camp @Ross is excited to offer a weeklong outdoor adventure minicamp. Campers will learn camping and basic wilderness survival skills, then embark on a three-night camping and whitewater rafting excursion in Maine led by Assistant Head of Ross Lower School Bryan Rosenberg and expert river guide Elissa Jean Boise. The Summer Camp @Ross Field Academy is a collaboration between Summer Camp @Ross and the experienced and highly regarded Northeas Whitewater Lodge and Guide Service.

The week begins with a one-day intensive session focusing on camping skills, including how to prepare a campsite, pitch a tent, build a fire, cook outdoors, and orienteer through wilderness trails, as well as basic whitewater rafting and river safety skills. Campers will have the opportunity to test the skills they learned at the Moosehead Campground in Maine, where they will camp for three nights. Campers will also go whitewater rafting on Maine’s Kennebec River, one of the finest stretches of whitewater in the country. Campers will orienteer on waterfall hikes in the picturesque Moosehead Lake area, encountering streams, vast lakes, rugged terrain, and tumbling cascades. By the end of the session, campers will have experienced the unique joy and sense of accomplishment that comes from spending time in nature and working as a team on the river.
